Marcus Rashford is a player that defenders will dread facing, according to Steven Gerrard.
The Manchester United academy graduate, who has featured on the left, right and up front this season, scored against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
It was his eighth goal of the season for United and he remains a key part of Jose Mourinho ‘s senior squad, with 24 appearances to his name so far this term despite sharing starts with teammate Anthony Martial .
Current Liverpool coach and former player Gerrard believes that Rashford’s direct style and lightning pace are frightening, and that the 20-year-old has the ability to ‘destroy’ any defender he comes up against.
“I love how direct he is. When he smells blood he just goes right at defenders and with that pace he plays to his strengths,” he said on BT Sport.
“If you’re a defender in that position he’s one player you don’t want to come up against, especially when he gets you in a wide area in a one-v-one, he can absolutely destroy you.”
Rashford scored United’s winning goal in a 2-1 victory over CSKA Moscow that mathematically confirmed the club’s progression into the Champions League knockout stages as group winners.
However, United could face a tough tie against Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Juventus when the draw is made on Monday.
