Jamie Carragher was not impressed by Dejan Lovren’s performance for Liverpool FC against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.
The Croatian defender failed to help the Reds keep a clean sheet as they lost 2-1 to the Red Devils following two quick-fire Marcus Rashford goals in the first half at Old Trafford.
Liverpool FC did pull a goal back after the break through Eric Bailly’s own goal but Jose Mourinho’s men held on to claim all three points in the Premier League clash.
Lovren did not have his best day at the back for the Merseyside outfit and former Liverpool FC defender Carragher pointed the finger at the centre-half after the defeat.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Carragher said: “The foul Dejan Lovren did on Marouane Fellaini was unbelievable. He fouled him twice, his head was completely gone.
“Liverpool have got to be more streetwise. They couldn’t keep giving fouls away. That’s where they needed someone on the pitch to keep the ball moving and wait for the opening.
“Instead, they played into Manchester United’s hands.”
Liverpool FC now have the week off to prepare for their home clash against Watford in the Premier League next weekend.
The Reds are now five points behind second placed Manchester United in the Premier League table as they look to try and better their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League from last season.
Liverpool FC booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League last week with a 5-0 aggregate win over FC Porto in the last 16.
