Everton 0-2 Manchester United: Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard combine to cut Manchester City’s lead at the top of the Premier League to 12 points

A 25-yard right-footed curler from Anthony Martial followed by a stunner from Jesse Lingard was the difference as Everton tried all they could to earn a draw against Manchester United.

Martial, who started as the lone striker with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku both unavailable, scored for United in the 57th minute after goalkeeper Jordan Pickford failed to keep his shot out. Lingard struck nine minutes from time.

The win helped Jose Mourinho’s side cut Manchester City’s lead over them at the top of the Premier League table to 12 points. Everton stay in ninth position.
